CALENDAR

The following list is only a highlight of what's happening this week with DSA-LA. Please check out our online calendar for full list of committee meetings & chapter events! Be sure to also follow our Instagram & Twitter for real-time announcements and calls-to-action!

Resolution Writing Workshop for Local Convention

Wednesday, September 1 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Want to help shape our chapter’s organizational priorities? Then consider writing a resolution for a Priority Campaign to be adopted at our upcoming local convention.

At this event, Steering Committee member Leslie C, and our regional staff representative Garrick R, will be sharing a presentation about how to develop and propose a meaningful campaign that the entire chapter can get behind. Bring your ideas or show up even if you don’t have ideas yet!

Although the membership will ultimately only choose 3 campaigns at our upcoming convention, the process should be just as collaborative as it is competitive. Let’s work together and sharpen each other as we learn how to develop campaigns that can actually make a material difference in LA County.

AgitProp Committee Meeting

Wednesday, September 1 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Want to contribute to to the cause? Love film and other types of media? Then come to our bi-weekly AgitProp Meeting! We’ll discuss all the latest projects we are working on as well as talk about new and upcoming projects! We have a lot to talk about so be sure to attend!

Green New Deal for Public Schools Working Group Meeting

Image

Thursday, September 2 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Winning transformative Green New Deal demands will require accelerated militancy from working class movements demanding radical expansion of public goods. This campaign will engage with the Congressional infrastructure fight to build mobilized constituencies for Green New Deal for Public Schools (GND4PS) legislation and beyond!

The campaign will organize key labor, student, parent and other groups around the bill and for future struggles locally and nationally. We aim to politicize a public institution that exists in every community and from which we can make broad-based demands for aggressive Green New Deal investment in public services and infrastructure.

Join us as we build out the campaign and demand a Green New Deal for Public Schools.

We are calling on local congressional representatives Linda Sanchez, Karen Bass, and Judy Chu to co-sponsor the Green New Deal for Public Schools. Sign the petition now and let our representatives in congress know we support a Green New Deal for Public Schools!

South Bay Neighborhood ‘Know your rights’ Canvass

Saturday, September 4 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

DSA-LA’s Neighborhood Solidarity Program is a campaign to strengthen and grow socialist organization by uniting with our neighbors through tenant organizing, mutual aid work, and political study.

Led by local South Bay Neighborhood Organizers, this ‘Know your rights” canvass is organized to build connections and solidarity with renters in Torrance, to ensure they know their rights (emergency protections & state-wide rent relief) and have the resources and support they need to claim their rights and connect these struggles to our fight for an affordable city.

New and long-time socialist organizers and community members in the South Bay are welcome to join; this event kicks off with a canvassing training at the beginning to make sure comrades have all of the information and resources they need.
