Dear beloved AMP Community,

Black August commemorates and celebrates the richness of Black resistance, past, present, and future. August, with its raging heat and long nights, is host to a myriad of iconic and historical global rebellions — most notably the Haitian Revolution, Nat Turner Rebellion, and March on Washington. Black August emerged from the ‘70s as a way to honor the struggle of Black freedom fighters murdered by the state. It’s a legacy that lives on as we turn our ancestors' prayers into action.

Allied Media Projects honors the many Sponsored Projects, AMP Seeds Presenters, and AMCers that work at the intersections of: emergence and archive, futurism and ritual, abolition and visionary fiction. We hold this moment as a collective opportunity to revisit Black liberation dreams with the Black August playlist ([link removed]) featuring speakers from past AMC sessions and the AMP Seeds Series.

Together, we will celebrate poets who relish the small, filmmakers fighting barriers, abolitionists creating safety, and performers whose practices nourish liberation with joy and radical care. Project Hajra ([link removed]) is a membership-based, peer-supported, and transformative justice initiative working out of the local AMEMSA (Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South/Central Asian) community in Queens, NYC. Some member leaders' families in Afghanistan are at huge risk — some are missing, others are being hunted down, many have been tortured, and some have been killed. People-powered movements have done more and will continue to do more than any government, so they asked us to publish a Call for Support ([link removed]) .

* Sponsorship Coordinator ([link removed]) —Collaborate with AMP between now and July 3, 2022 to help shape and implement a strategy to raise $60K for AMC and AMP Seeds in 2022. This is a part-time, remote contract. Application deadline is ROLLING.
* AMC2022 UX Designer —The AMC is building a dynamic team of UX Designers to co-create the 22nd Allied Media Conference with us. We are looking for a Virtual UX Designer ([link removed]) and a Detroit based UX Designer ([link removed]) to work with us as we organize for a hybrid conference. * Join Detroit Disability Power & Healing By Choice! for a Community Conversation about how ableism shows up in caregiving. Moderated by Dessa Cosma, the panel will feature perspectives from: Naomi Ortiz (Poet, Writer, Facilitator, and Visual Artist), Nkenge Browner (mother & activist), Ani Grigorian (geriatric social worker and accessibility consultant) and Rhi Chester Bay (caregiver & healing arts practitioner). * Honoring Disability Pride, Striving Towards Disability Justice ([link removed]) , an interview with Conspiracy of Geniuses who offered their insights on the movement for disability justice, disability justice ancestors, radical care, and disrupting the status quo this July in celebration of the thirty one years since the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed.

Healing by Choice (HbC!) is a circle of women, gender non-conforming people of color health, and healing practitioners based in Waawiiyatanong / Detroit, MI. Help grow and transform healing spaces in Detroit by: becoming a donor (monthly or one-time), filling out the mobile healing space survey, and/or joining the Healing By Choice! Friendraiser. * Black Sci-Fi At the End of the World is ([link removed]) Writer, activist and broadcaster Walidah Imarisha presents the untold story of black sci-fi and its vital role in redefining the present and imagining the future with authors in the UK, USA and Africa in this audio documentary.
* Longtime friend and contributor of AMP, Imani Mixon, wrote this beautiful reflection ([link removed]) on the 20 year anniversary of Aliyah’s acclaimed record and her passing.
* LN3: 7 Teachings of the Anishinaabe Resistance ([link removed]) is a short film (35 min) about water protectors on the frontlines of Line 3. Learn more about how you can take action to prevent the final leg of this pipeline being built.
* Detroit Justice Center’s Highway Robbery report showed how police and courts in Metro Detroit create an ecosystem that targets Black and Brown Detroiters and traps people in the cycle of fines and fees. These newly-released policing infographics ([link removed]) are based on info from Dearborn, Livonia, Sterling Heights, Warren, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Eastpointe, The Grosse Pointes, and Inkster.
