Friend,
Voter suppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere. So when fellow Americans, say, in Georgia, experience obstacles at the ballotbox that we in Vermont aren't subject to, we need to call it what it is -- voter suppression -- and make it right.
Last week, the House passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which will do just that. I'll stop at nothing to protect your vote and make sure the Senate sends this bill to President Biden's desk right after we come back from
recess.
We need everyone to speak out. Sign my petition to urge senators to come together to uphold our voting rights and preserve American democracy.

Let me tell you how we got to this boiling point.
Eight years ago, the Supreme Court weakened the Voting Rights Act of 1965, opening the door for states to pass restrictive laws. Then, as a reaction to Democratic victories last year, and fueled by the former president's lie of widespread voter fraud, 18 Republican-led state legislatures enacted 30 laws to suppress votes. Most recently, the Supreme Court upheld two such laws this
summer.
That’s why I sponsored the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and why it’s my top priority as soon as we’re back in session. In honor of my dear friend John Lewis, I am working to find common ground. We need to get this done for the American people and to honor the spirit of John Lewis.
The Senate Democratic majority is razor thin, so we need everyone, including you, on board. Will you add your name right now to show your support for voting rights? [link removed] you for signing on. Leahy Senator YOUR NAME » [link removed] #%%the-senate-uphold-our-voting-rights#%%
