LCA's raid on an illegal slaughterhouse in S. Korea leads to 9 dogs rescued from meat trade.

UPDATE! 8-Month Dog Meat Undercover Investigation by LCA/ALW Leads to Raid and Dogs Rescued!

John,

We wanted to provide you with previously unreleased detailed information on what happened after LCA/ALW's extensive eight-month undercover investigation of the S. Korean dog meat trade was released in July 2021.

On July 9, 2021, LCA and ALW, along with activists, journalists, police, and Animal Protection Officers, raided two illegal dog slaughterhouses located an hour outside of Seoul.

The slaughterhouses had been documented as part of the extensive, eight-month undercover investigation of the dog meat trade released by LCA/ALW in July 2021.

Upon entry, police arrested three slaughterhouse employees. After police left, Animal Protection officers removed 15 dogs. The dogs were transported to an animal shelter. Sadly, four dogs did not survive and despite protest from activists, one dog was returned to the dog slaughterers.

The surviving nine dogs (pictures below) - Ally, Blossom, Chunsam, Lorian, Naru, Rown, Star, Vandal and Waterboy - are being nursed back to health at a veterinary hospital and expected to recover. The dogs were turned over to LCA/ALW and will be adopted. LCA will continue to provide updates.

LCA/ALW have filed lawsuits against both illegal slaughterhouses and a dog auction for violating South Korea’s Animal Protection Act. The violations include killing dogs in full view of other dogs, transport crates of dogs being dropped, death caused in a brutal way (electrocution), and inflicting physical pain or injury upon an animal.

LCA and ALW have filed an official complaint with Yeoju City Officials, demanding both illegal slaughterhouses be demolished. Learn more here.

“We are calling on the South Korean National Assembly to immediately enact legislation introduced last year which would end this horrific industry,” said Chris DeRose, President and Founder of Last Chance for Animals. “It’s enough, the majority of South Koreans oppose the dog meat trade. The laws must be changed immediately to reflect the will of the public.”
