Last Tuesday — just days before the 60th anniversary of the historic march on Washington led by civil rights giants Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis, and others — House Democrats passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. This is a critical step forward in the battle to protect access to the ballot box — a right which is under attack in Republican legislatures across the country.
Among other things, this legislation would remedy Supreme Court rulings that effectively gutted the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and would revive the power of the Justice Department to challenge discriminatory election laws. It’s now headed to the US Senate, where Republicans have vowed to stop it.
The pressure is on. We have the chance to restore federal voting rights protections — and we cannot afford to miss this moment.
Over the last year, a slew of states across our country have passed laws making it more difficult to vote and granting unprecedented powers to outside political entities to intervene in the review and determination of election results. We cannot allow the outcome of our election process to reflect anything but the will of the voters — ALL the voters.
It’s up to us to do everything in our power — including overturning the filibuster — to protect the legitimacy of our electoral process from these unprecedented Republican attacks.
The 2022 midterm elections are just 14 months away and we need to mobilize a grassroots army and generate a nationwide popular wave of support to win this fight. That's why I'm asking if you will consider pitching in today, before tonight’s August fundraising deadline, to support our campaign to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, the For the People Act AND win in 2022. We need all hands on deck:

Thank you for being a part of this.
