It’s nice to virtually meet you. My name’s Anushka, and I’m Stand Up America’s new Deputy Communications Director. 

I’m many things—a proud Michigander, a child of immigrants, a watcher of reality TV—but working in communications means I’m the person who amplifies our organizing and helps everyday people speak truth to power.   

My first week on the job, I hit the ground running doing exactly that, delivering a petition with over 400,000 (!!) signatures in person to the White House. It’s the type of action I love—community members coming together and urging President Biden to publicly pressure the Senate to abolish the filibuster. 

Ending the filibuster is the key to passing federal legislation to protect voting rights. With this antiquated rule in place, Republican lawmakers will continue to pass voter suppression laws across the states and continue to block any action to stop them in the Senate. 

We don’t have a moment to waste, which is why we need President Biden’s unequivocal support in getting rid of the filibuster. Basically, Biden needs to do more.

Here’s where you can plug in: submit a pre-written letter to the editor of your local paper, making the case for why Biden needs to do more in this fight. Just follow the steps on screen and soon you might have your name in print!

Biden’s press team keeps track of how he’s portrayed in the media (they have a team watching every state, including District of Columbia) and we want them to take note of how people feel about his reticence to put his full weight behind voting rights. 

But by submitting a letter to the editor, you’re not only putting public pressure on Biden, you’re also educating friends and neighbors about this fight. A casual reader might not have understood Biden’s potential role in protecting our right to vote, and you can let them know. 

Keeping the filibuster in place allows Senate Republicans to stop us from passing meaningful legislation to protect our voting rights, and I need your help to make sure everyone knows it.

It’s up to us, citizens and voters and neighbors, to work together to demand the democracy we deserve. Submit your letter to the editor now!
