“Oh Beautiful for smoggy skies, insecticided grain,
For strip-mined mountain's majesty above the asphalt plain.
America, America, man sheds his waste on thee,
And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea.”
- George Carlin

Enbridge Line 5 Pop-up Action
Tomorrow - Wednesday, September 1
10:00 - 11:00 am

Lincoln Memorial Drive at Lafayette Hill Road ([link removed])
Lake Michigan, Milwaukee
(Free parking in McKinley Marina)

We'll have signs, but you can bring a sign opposing Line 5 if you like!

RSVP ([link removed])

Since May, Enbridge has been operating Line 5 ([link removed]) illegally in defiance of the State of Michigan and with support from the Trudeau government of Canada. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s plan to shut down the Line 5 pipeline is both legal and the right thing to do. By taking a proactive approach to defusing a ticking time bomb, her plan was to protect the health and safety of Michiganders while ensuring the state’s energy needs are met.

It is past time for Canadian officials to join their neighbors in Michigan and act to protect the Great Lakes and our climate instead of advancing Enbridge’s fossil fuel agenda.

On Wednesday, small groups will gather in four Great Lakes cities (plus other locations) to call on Canada to do just that. Let us know if you can come!

Sponsors: Oil & Water Don’t Mix, Sierra Club-Wisconsin, 350 Milwaukee, Great Waters Group, and more!

"President Biden has immense power to combat the climate crisis. That includes the power to push major banks and insurance companies to stop funding and insuring the corporations causing the climate crisis.

Earlier this year, President Biden issued a first-of-its-kind Executive Order on Climate-Related Financial Risk ([link removed]) , a vital step toward tackling the U.S. financial industry’s outsized contributions to the climate crisis. The first findings of the Executive Order are due back on September 17th.

Between now and then, we need to make sure that the Biden Administration uses this opportunity to do everything it can to force Wall Street banks and other financial institutions to stop funding the fossil fuel companies driving climate chaos.

Can you send an email to senior White House officials, demanding that they regulate the US financial sector and drive down its funding of the fossil fuel industry? ([link removed]) Your email will go directly into the inbox of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, National Economic Council director Brian Deese, and other senior officials in the Biden Administration."

In solidarity

The Climate Consensus:
How UWM Scientists are Bringing the Climate Conversation to You
Clark Evans
UWM Professor of Atmospheric Sciences
and
Andrew Westgate
PhD Candidate, UWM

The Climate Consensus ([link removed])
A network of concerned scientists speaking up for truth and our future

The Climate Consensus Network has an aim of dispelling the myth held by many people that scientists do not consider climate change to be a serious issue. They want to bridge the divide between scientists and the public. The science students in the network go out to schools and organizations to talk about climate and why it matters. Through their efforts, the barriers to acknowledging the climate crisis are likely to start coming down. The speakers can also share their stories in order to equip us to go out and have climate conversations.
