Support for Afghan Refugees Is Both Popular and “a Moral Obligation”

BY ROXY SZAL | Providing refuge to Afghans and their families who assisted America has broad public support from both Republicans and Democrats, according to a late August CBS poll. In total, 81 percent of Americans say they believe the U.S. should help Afghans who worked for U.S. troops and officials resettle in America—including 90 percent of Democrats, 76 percent of Republicans and 79 percent of Independents.

 
 
 
Youth Activists in Texas Fight Back Against Assault on Abortion Access

BY JULIET SCHULMAN-HALL | In response to coordinated attacks on abortion in Texas, youth activists are fighting back.

“It’s really overwhelming to get an abortion in Texas,” said Kat Tsvetkova, a member of the Buckle Bunnies Fund, a queer- and youth-led mutual aid abortion fund. “A lot of organizers here in Texas, myself included, want to ensure that people still get access to the care that they need, regardless if it’s during a pandemic or not, and especially in Texas. We’re here to assist with anything that they need, and help people access abortion safely and effectively.”

 
 
 
How “Girl Power Politics” Is Closing the Political Gender Gap

“Women and girls often feel like they’re not qualified enough to hold elected office. They don’t understand that no matter what their exposure or background is, whatever they bring to the table is an asset to that conversation.”
