Analysis after analysis shows that women — especially Black women — running for office face greater barriers to raising the funds needed to run a competitive campaign.
“The average Black female candidate raised 46 percent less than the average white male candidate, but she also raised 55 percent less than the average white female candidate,” concluded a Center for Responsive Politics analysis in 2018.
An OpenSecrets report found that Black women often had a unique disadvantage in primary elections, raising significantly less financial support than any other demographic group running for office.
It will take more than just $$$ to decide this race and unseat Henry McMaster, but it’s no secret our campaign will have to work harder and smarter if we want to elect change at the ballot box next year.
