On September 10, to mark the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Awareness Day, AFSP is hosting a first-of-its-kind, all-day Facebook Live event! This special, action packed day will be filled with inspiring conversation about mental health and suicide prevention, and feature guests and partners across research, entertainment, advocacy and more. Starting at 12pm ET, the lineup will include:
- Opening remarks and mental health tips from comedian Gary Gulman, whose HBO special The Great Depresh melded standup with a documentary-style look at his lived experience and hospitalization
- A music industry panel in partnership with Audacy, featuring AFSP’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Yu Moutier and hosted by DJ Yesi Ortiz, with Dave Richards (Audacy Senior VP of Programming and founder of the “I’m Listening” initiative), and pop superstar Normani
- A conversation with award-winning actor and suicide loss survivor Courtney B. Vance (Lovecraft Country, American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson) and Dr. Robin Smith, bestselling author and on-air therapist-in-residence for The Oprah Winfrey Show
- A special episode of “Ask Dr. Jill” with AFSP’s Vice President of Research Dr. Jill Harkavy-Friedman and guest psychologist and researcher Dr. Lisa Horowitz, answering the question: “How to ask someone if you think they’re thinking about suicide – and how to respond if they say, ‘Yes.’”
- A policy-focused panel discussion highlighting the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline's transition to 988 and the future of crisis care.
