Donald Trump packed the Supreme Court with anti-abortion judges. Now, newly emboldened Texas Republicans are seizing the opportunity to crack down.

On Wednesday, a devastating new bill — Senate Bill 8 — will go into effect. It bans abortions around six weeks into a pregnancy, before many women even realize they’re pregnant in the first place. In combination with other restrictions in Texas, this new law will make it nearly impossible to access abortion in the state.

It’s a travesty, John. We have to fight it with everything we’ve got. That’s why this week I’m proud to be standing with reproductive justice advocates in calling for Texas Republicans to keep their #BansOffOurBodies. I encourage everyone to post on social media with that hashtag to spread awareness.

My opponent in this race, Henry Cuellar, is one of the last remaining anti-choice Democrats in Congress. That’s a big part of the reason I’m running in the first place. Defeating Rep. Cuellar is one of the most important things we can do to turn the tide on anti-choice politics on a national level.

With the future of Roe v Wade on the line nationally, we need a representative in Congress who will fight to codify Roe by passing legislation in Congress to ensure that all people have unfettered access to abortion care and repeal the Hyde Amendment to make abortion more affordable and accessible.

While this is a dark day in Texas, we cannot fall into despair. It’s on all of us to keep up the fight for reproductive justice. I hope you’ll join me in participating in a #BansOffOurBodies protest action.
