John:

Young families losing their homes. Legal loan sharks targeting people of color. Senior citizens having their Social Security checks seized to pay debts they can never escape.

Student loan debt is ruining millions of people’s lives. Can you imagine thinking it’s a reason to celebrate?

According to NBC, Sallie Mae executives and salespeople just enjoyed a free trip to Maui, where they "were awarded prizes, and soaked up the sun." The reason? They just made $5 billion last year--from student loans.

For them, it's party time. But for the rest of us, it's a $1.6 trillion crisis that's eating us alive.

We don't have to accept this. We can change it. We can win Free College for All. Chip in now to help.

Did you know that about half of millennials say that it wasn't worth going to college based on their financial situation and their student loans? But it's not just younger people. Millions of senior citizens together owe more than $86 billion in student loans--and many have to use their Social Security benefits for payments.

One 76-year-old social worker told CBS News about her despair about her student debt:

"This will follow me to the grave."

Back to that Maui beach party for a second. Here's something you should know. Sallie Mae does it every year. Every. Year. That’s because every year, it’s the same story: more profits for them, more debt for us. That’s the way it’s going to be until we decide we’ve had enough.

We are the richest country in the world. There's no excuse for us to let these student loan sharks crush the lives and dreams of tens of millions of people--young, old, and in between--so they can "soak up the sun" at resorts every year.

We can beat this system of profit over people. At our People's Presidential Forums, we are challenging candidates to stand up to these loan profiteers and make college free for everyone--and our organizers are working all across the country to make it happen. Will you help us keep up the fight?

If we win this fight, we can wipe out one of the biggest sources of stress, misery, and hardship in modern America. We can open doors for millions of people to higher education and help create a more vibrant, healthy democracy. And instead of partying in Maui, these greedy corporate execs can spend their next day off updating their resumes.

We can win this. Chip in now.

Sincerely,

Adiel Pollydore
