Tomorrow is our August end-of-month fundraising deadline, and we’re still short on our goal. But before we ask if you can pitch in to support Laurie, let us paint a picture of who her likely Republican opponent is.
Ryan Zinke wants Montanans to think he’s a moderate, “Teddy Roosevelt” kind of guy. But the truth is, his tenure as Donald Trump’s Secretary of Interior was plagued by scandal, anti-conservation efforts, and corruption.
Zinke used his Cabinet position to line his personal pocketbook, meeting with the chairman of notorious oil company Halliburton about a land development deal in his hometown regarding property he personally owned. Talk about abusing the office.
And it wasn’t just Halliburton: Zinke met with lobbyist after lobbyist, acting on their behalf instead of the American people’s, even telling oil and gas executives “Our government should work for you.” His corruption is so bad, he’s been the subject of 17 federal investigations, some of which are still active.
Not only was Zinke pressured to resign for using his political position for personal gain time and again, but he undermined conservation efforts when he gutted the Land and Water Conservation Fund, called for decreasing national monuments for the sake of resource extraction, allowed offshore drilling loopholes, censored any mention of “climate change,” and so much more.
Despite what he says, Zinke is no “Teddy Roosevelt.” He’s a crooked politician willing to cozy up to far-right extremists like Trump and sell out our people and environment for his own profit.
Montana deserves better, and that means electing Laurie to become our new U.S. Representative in Congress in 2022. Help us do it: pitch in $10 or more before tomorrow’s deadline.
