The public deserves to know the truth
Animal Legal Defense Fund

John,

You might remember the story of the cats at the SUNY College of Optometry — cats undergoing invasive and painful experimentation.

Behind closed doors, cats as young as four months old have their heads mounted in frames and their eyes forced open with contact lenses. While still alive, their skulls are then removed so that electrodes can be inserted into their brains.

Cruelty like this is the result of a legal system that too often treats animals like these cats and kittens as mere property.

Help Expose This Cruelty. Make A Gift And Double Your Impact Up To $50,000

We’re in the middle of a legal battle right now to expose this cruelty to public scrutiny — and we need your help to continue this and other legal work on behalf of abused, neglected, and exploited animals. Your contribution to the Animal Legal Defense Fund before October 31 will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000 — so please make a gift today.

Our lawsuit, filed on behalf of Citizens for Alternatives to Animal Research & Experimentation (CAARE), is in response to SUNY’s refusal to release public records regarding this experimentation.

Under New York’s Freedom of Information Law — a state law similar to the federal Freedom of Information Act, which favors government transparency — the public has a legal right to know about the experiments being performed, and the SUNY College of Optometry should and must release the records.

Please make a gift to the Animal Legal Defense Fund today to support our fight on behalf of the SUNY cats and all of our lifesaving work for animals. Remember, your gift before October 31 will be doubled up to $50,000!

For the animals,

Stephen Wells, Executive Director
