"Many "progressive" professors have for some time served in one of the various alphabetical government agencies.... They compiled statistics and wrote memoranda which their superiors, either politicians or former managers of corporations, filed without reading. The professors did not instill a scientific spirit into the bureaus. But the bureaus gave them the mentality of authoritarianism."
- Ludwig von Mises, Planning for Freedom
[link removed] the final animated video in our Economics for Beginners ([link removed]) series, we look at one of the most important topics of our day: at a time when experts claim to be so confident about their knowledge of the future, why are our "experts" so wrong?
History has shown the state has always been dependent upon a group of intellectuals to justify their actions. In this video, we highlight the limitations of mainstream economics and the horrific consequences of government policy justified by unrealistic and oversimplistic models.
Now, more than ever, there is no more useful tool in debunking the propaganda of the state than thinking like an economist. That is why the Mises Institute is dedicated to our mission of teaching sound economics to anyone willing to learn.
Civilization itself depends on it.
If you haven't yet checked out Economics for Beginners ([link removed]) , you can do so at BeginEconomics.org. These short animated videos cover core economic topics, highlighting how economic decisions are a part of our day-to-day life. Thus far we have covered the following topics:
* What Is Economics?
* What is Cost?
* What Is Money?
* What Is Profit?
* What Is Capitalism?
* What Is Cronyism?
* What Is Socialism?
* What Is Progressivism?
* Why Experts Can't Predict the Future
Perfect for parents looking to supplement their child's economics education at home or adults looking to broaden their understanding of economics, the series includes discussion questions and additional readings that will ensure no one is fooled by the road to serfdom.
Thank you to everyone who has watched and shared the series so far, the response has been both inspiring and rewarding.
Special thanks to James Kluttz for making this project possible.
