On Monday, Senator Pat Bates, whose District encompasses the 49th Congressional District, released the following statement:
"Our state is at a crossroads. With crime rates increasing and the mounting crisis at the border, Californians are — with good reason — concerned about their own futures and the future of our great state. California's 49th District needs a representative who puts their concerns first ahead of partisan politics and D.C special interests. I know that Brian Maryott will be that Representative. It's never been more important to elect strong leaders who are willing to stand up for their constituents. One of the best things that we can do for our communities is to elect Brian Maryott to Congress."
Brian Maryott responded, "I am immensely proud to have the endorsement of Senator Pat Bates. She has been a tremendous warrior for fiscal discipline and law and order; and her exceptional work on behalf of retired Californians has been remarkable. Senator Bates' District encompasses the 49th Congressional District and she best knows the needs of these communities- which makes her support all the more meaningful."
Senator Bates has represented the 36th District in the California State Senate since December 1, 2014. This district includes more than 1 million people living in South Orange and North San Diego counties. After graduating from Occidental College with a degree in psychology, Senator Bates worked as a social worker for Los Angeles County, where she helped some of our most vulnerable neighbors get back on their feet. Senator Bates is a proud native of Southern California, growing up in Long Beach and moving to South Orange County four decades ago. Her husband John is an accomplished architect, and they are proud to have two adult children and four grandchildren.
