Here's the deal, John.
The new census data shows that, unquestionably, the United States has become more diverse in the past 10 years. Population growth in states like North Carolina, Florida, and Texas is overwhelmingly due to people of color moving to those states. And we think political representation should reflect that fact.
That means that when Republican politicians try to draw maps that give an unfair advantage to their own party, rather than fairly representing communities of color (which tend to vote for Democrats), we're going to hold them accountable.
Take Texas. As NDRC President Kelly Burton told Politico , "There’s simply no way for [Republicans] to add two more GOP seats in Texas without racially gerrymandering based on this census data."
John: The first end-of-month deadline since the census data was released is tomorrow. Will you rush a donation to help us fight map manipulation in every state?
Thanks,
Tara
