You don't want to miss this. August 2021 News & Updates Message from Rep. Kristin Boggs This month, Ohio began the process of redistricting, the drawing of new congressional and state legislative district boundaries which occurs every 10 years following the U.S. census. Previously elected Republican leaders had exclusive discretion over drawing the district lines and Ohio became one of the worst gerrymandered states in the country. As a result in 2015 and 2018 Ohioans overwhelming supported constitutional amendments that created a new redistricting process that is more fair, open and transparent. Every critical issue in our state comes down to fair districts, from education and the economy, to growing good paying jobs and protecting healthcare access and our freedom to vote. The best way to serve Ohio voters and move our state forward on all the issues important to working families is by creating fair districts that truly represent the diversity of our state. The Ohio Redistricting Commission was formed to redraw Ohio's 99 House districts and 33 Senate districts. From August 23rd- August 27th, the Commission traveled around Ohio to hear the public's thoughts on redistricting. The first deadline for the Ohio Redistricting Commission is Sept. 1st. By this date, the Commission is required to provide state House and state Senate maps. The next deadline is Sept. 30th and by that date Ohio lawmakers have to approve congressional district maps under the new, voter-approved bipartisan process. Find more information on the Commission at redistricting.ohio.gov. If you have questions or comments about the redistricting process, please feel free to reach out to my office at [email protected] or 614-466-1896 I work for you. Kristin Upcoming Event Rep.
