Have you made your plan to vote? We encourage voting early at advance polls, from September 10 to 13. Or you can vote on election day, September 20.
But this year, if voting by mail is the best option for you, we’re here to help and to highlight some important dates. We recommend you start the process as soon as possible!
If you want to go straight to the source, Elections Canada has all the information on its website or you can call 1-800-463-6868. But we’ll break down the three step process here:
Step 1: Apply to vote by mail by Tuesday, September 14.
Submit your online application here! If you apply online, the deadline is 6 p.m. EST. If you apply in person at an Elections Canada office, the deadline is 6 p.m. local time.
Step 2: Choose your candidate.
When you receive your mail-in ballot, read all of the instructions. Write the first and last name of your chosen candidate on the ballot. You can find your Green candidate here.
Step 3: Return your ballot.
If the enclosed mail-in ballot return envelope has a return address in Ottawa, Elections Canada needs to receive your ballot by 6 p.m. EST on Monday, September 20, 6 p.m. EST.
If the return address is the Elections Canada office in your riding, that office needs to receive your ballot by the time the polls close in your area on Monday, September 20.
It is important that you return your ballot with enough time for it to reach its destination before the polls close on September 20. You can use the Canada Post calculator to estimate the amount of time your envelope will take to reach its destination. Remember that there could be some delays because Elections Canada is expecting a lot more mail-in ballots this year.
