This is a difficult, tragic week for our country and for the world. Let us work harder than ever to honor those who have fallen by saving as many lives as we can in the days ahead. Our mission has never been more critical, and today, my thoughts are with the American troops who are still on the ground to ensure that this mission can proceed.

Friend,

The attacks this week in Kabul on U.S. service members and Afghan civilians are horrifying and despicable. My heart breaks for the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives.

Our troops have exhibited courage that cannot be overstated. They have worked tirelessly to evacuate tens of thousands of people. They selflessly entered a volatile and dangerous situation to save American and Afghan lives. Their actions and sacrifices will not be in vain.

We must continue to do everything we can to facilitate swift evacuations for the Americans still in Afghanistan, and as many of our Afghan allies as possible. Our mission has never been more critical, and today, my thoughts are with the American troops who are still on the ground to ensure that this mission can proceed.

I will do all in my power to assist those seeking safe passage and refuge. I will use my platform as a member of Congress to advocate for a comprehensive humanitarian response. And I will continue to support the proper funding of healthcare and mental health resources for veterans and those currently serving.

This is a difficult, tragic week for our country and for the world. Let us work harder than ever to honor those who have fallen by saving as many lives as we can in the days ahead.

Sincerely,

Jennifer

P.S. People across the globe are right now opening their doors and hearts to those fleeing violence and oppression. If you are able to support efforts to help Afghan refugees resettle, and I want to highlight some organizations in Northern Virginia and the D.C. area that are doing important work:

Catholic Charities Migration & Refugee Services

One Journey/NOVA Friends of Refugees

Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area

Homes Not Borders
