Friends,
It is hard to find the right words at a time like this. As the heartbreaking situation in Afghanistan continues to unfold, my thoughts and prayers are with our fallen and wounded heroes, their families, fellow troops, and the Afghan people.
But thoughts and prayers are not enough. We must put action behind our compassion.
As we continue to do all that we can to get our citizens and our allies out of Afghanistan safely, refugees are on their way to the United States. These are our partners who worked side-by-side with our troops for over 20 years, and they urgently need our assistance. Here are some ways that you can help:
By standing together, our small, individual actions will add up to much more. This is an extraordinary situation, and as civilians, our help now is a small but important way to add to the heroic efforts of our service men and women. They are heroes who have risked, and in several tragic cases lost, their lives to evacuate more than 100,000 people in a matter of days.
Let us lead by example, live our values, and stand with our heroes.
Warmly and sincerely,
Madeleine Dean
