Sharon Lerner has spent the last few years investigating PFAS, toxic compounds that are used in every day products – and also contaminating the water of approximately 110 million Americans. “These chemicals don’t go away, which is why they are known as forever chemicals,” says Lerner on the podcast. “We can assume that these chemicals are going to be on the earth much longer than humans will. They are just going to persist indefinitely.” Lerner also reveals the lengths 3M went to conceal evidence linking PFAS to serious health problems, while continuing to develop new chemicals in the class.
Listen to this week’s podcast to take a deeper dive into our 2019 Think Before You Pink Campaign, Say Never to Forever Chemicals. Find out why we’re calling on 3M to stop pinkwashing and how you can make a difference.
And if you’re new to our podcast, you should also check out past episodes. On the first episode, “Unraveling the Pink Ribbon,” Karuna is joined by BCAction Board Member Yamini Ranchod to talk about pink ribbon culture and marketing, and what we can do together to make real change. On the second episode, “Say Never to Forever Chemicals,” Karuna and BCAction Program Officer Jayla Burton take you behind the scenes of our 2019 Think Before You Pink® campaign.
I hope you enjoy listening to our podcast as much as I have, and if you have feedback or ideas for future episodes, please let me know.
