August was busy.
As we deal with humanitarian crises, a surge in COVID cases, and negotiations over the $3.5 trillion budget, Alexandria’s voice has never been more essential in the halls of Congress.
But while August was as busy as can be legislatively, it was one of the slowest months for fundraising we’ve had in years on the campaign. That has us worried, because our job is to ensure we have the resources we need to keep Alexandria there in Congress fighting for us.
We need to make up for some lost ground to keep on track with our budget. So today, we’re announcing a goal to raise $120,000 before the month is up. That’s the target we’ll need to hit in order to close our gap and head into fall — when this re-election race will really start to pick up — with the strongest momentum possible.
Our records indicate you haven’t donated this year — and that’s totally fine. We don’t expect everyone to be able to chip in all the time.
But, we’re specifically reaching out to you now because based on what we’re seeing, the only way we’ll have a shot to reach our end-of-month goal is if enough of our grassroots supporters make their first donation of the cycle today. Otherwise, we could fall short and have to make adjustments to our budget.
It’s common to see a dip in fundraising over the summer before election year. But we didn’t expect the dip to be this deep, and that’s why we’re setting this bigger end-of-month goal to help us close the gap.
With all that’s going on in the world, it’s never been more important to secure Alexandria’s place in Congress fighting for all of us.
