FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW
- On Tuesday, Congress passed a budget resolution that includes several potential pathways to legal permanent residency for eligible immigrants. It will go to committees, the final state of the process.
The budget bill includes a pathway to legal status for farmworkers, an estimated 49% of whom are undocumented. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act would allow many of these undocumented farmworkers, as well as their spouses and minor children, to apply for Certified Agricultural Worker (CAW) status during an 18-month application period.
This fact sheet from the American Immigration Council provides an overview of the status through which certain undocumented farmworkers in the United States could earn a green card and eventual U.S. citizenship.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Thousands of people have suffered the horrible consequences of the Migrant Protection Protocols. The Supreme Court has now upheld the Texas court's decision and, instead of keeping MPP a stain in the history books, it will continue to be a present-day disaster.
“Forcing vulnerable families and children to wait in provisional camps in Mexico puts their lives at risk, while also making it nearly impossible for them to access the asylum process. The Biden administration can and must work to terminate the policy again immediately. Rather than turning away people fleeing harm, we should ensure people have a fair day in court.”
– Kate Melloy Goettel, legal director of litigation at the American Immigration Council
