Dear friends,
Earlier this month, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake shook southern Haiti, killing more than 2,200 people, leaving tens of thousands more injured or missing, and destroying homes and critical infrastructure across the island.
Following the earthquake, Tropical Storm Grace brought torrential rain, further displacing families and hampering rescue efforts even more.
Approximately 650,000 people are in need of emergency humanitarian assistance, from medical care and shelter to food and clean drinking water — and that’s why we’re emailing you today.
Partners in Health are the largest non-governmental health care provider in Haiti, centering social justice and putting health care as a human right into practice. They are deploying staff, volunteers, supplies, emergency trauma care and first responders across the affected region.
Health Equity International operates St. Boniface Hospital in southern Haiti, providing urgent medical care to those affected by this disaster, procuring supplies, and supporting people and communities on the ground.
The Boston Foundation and their Haiti Development Institute initiative are working to put urgently-needed resources directly into the hands of Haitian people, and to strengthen existing community institutions to repair agricultural infrastructure, replant farms, replace animals, rebuild schools and more.
My heart and those of our entire team here are with Haiti and all who have been affected by this earthquake. Now is the time to stand in solidarity with the people of Haiti and work together to help them recover and rebuild from this horrific disaster.
Thank you for your support today if you’re able.
In solidarity,
Ed Markey
