Donald Trump has spent months spreading misinformation and lies that the 2020 election was somehow stolen from him. It wasn’t. He lost.
In response, Republicans in the Wisconsin state legislature have weaponized Trump’s baseless lies of voter fraud to further their own political gain — passing several laws making it harder to vote.
Let me be clear: The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy, and voter suppression is an unacceptable political tactic used to undermine that democratic foundation. I will never stand down in the fight to protect voting rights.
If you’re with me, add your name to my petition demanding Congress pass voting rights protections immediately.
I’m grateful for Governor Tony Evers for vetoing these Republican attacks on our right to vote here in Wisconsin. But other states have not been as lucky.
So far this year, 18 states have passed 30 voter suppression laws. That’s why it’s critical that we pass laws to protect our fundamental right to vote at the federal level.
On Tuesday, the House passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect voting rights and end discrimination at the ballot box. But the problem is, we need at least 10 Republican Senators to vote in favor of this bill to bypass the filibuster and put this critical legislation on President Biden’s desk.
Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have abused the filibuster time and again to halt progress that the majority of the American people want — without a vote or even a debate.
Well, the people of Wisconsin didn’t send me to Washington to sit on the sidelines while Republicans attack our right to vote in our state and across the nation. I’m here to get things done.
So, I am calling on the Senate to pass voting rights legislation to protect our democracy — and if we have to eliminate the filibuster to get it done, I’m all for that. If you’re with me, please sign your name next to mine.
Thanks for reading and speaking up on this critical issue.
More soon,
Tammy
