Friend,
As the school year begins, many students are going back to in-person learning after months of virtual instruction at home. Unfortunately, that also means students are returning to school with the looming threat of gun violence.
Only a few weeks into the school year, the U.S. has already witnessed several devastating school shootings. Earlier this month, a 13-year-old was murdered at a middle school in New Mexico while trying to defend another student from bullying. At a high school in South Carolina, a shooter opened fire on the third day of school, wounding three students.
My heart broke when I heard the news of these two school shootings and yet another life lost to gun violence. The fact is, we know what we have to do to prevent tragedies like these: finally put in place commonsense restrictions to keep our communities safe. But the NRA and the politicians they fund are doing everything they can to block commonsense, lifesaving gun reform.
This school year, we must stand up together to say that enough is enough. No student should have to practice hiding under their desk in case of a school shooting; no child should spend their teenage years physically and mentally recovering from the trauma of gun violence; and no one should have to read about a school shooting and wonder if their child is alive.
We're calling for immediate action to protect our children from gun violence – and we're counting on you to join our call. It's going to take all hands on deck to overcome the NRA, so we need at least 10,000 people to sign our petition now. Please add your name before our petition closes at midnight:

Friend, add your name to be one of 10,000 people to call for immediate action to prevent school shootings.
