Friend,

On August 9, when the United Nations released its report blaring the
alarm on the climate emergency, the corporate broadcast media gave it
over 2 hours of coverage.

Two days later, they were down to five minutes combined.

Now—even as flooding, heatwaves, wildfires, and other forms of extreme
weather ravage nearly every continent on the globe—coverage of the
climate emergency in corporate media outlets has almost totally
vanished.

It's a disgrace. Because the only way politicians will take meaningful
action to stem the climate emergency is if we treat it like an emergency
every day. And unlike the corporate news outlets funded by ads from the
very fossil-fuel companies who are causing the problem, that's exactly
what we're doing here at Common Dreams.

The corporate media remains incapable of providing the kind of coverage
it will take to combat the climate emergency. Not Common Dreams. Will
you make a donation to fund our independent newsroom's coverage of the
climate crisis, day in and out?

Common Dreams has covered the climate emergency as the #1 threat to
humanity every day for more than 20 years, even when there are other
major stories in the news to cover like the end of the war in
Afghanistan and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021—given what the science tells us—media not directly challenging
the fossil fuel paradigm, are complicit in planetary destruction.

Please support Common Dreams today so we can continue to provide daily
coverage of the climate emergency and other vital issues the corporate
media won't. If every reader just gave a small amount to support this
work, we would reach our must-hit goal in no time. Can we count on you
right now?
