FOSTER
Dear John,

Since March, you’ve urged your support for HB 1711, the Humane Pet Store Bill. Over the past five months, it has passed through the Illinois legislature and made its way to Governor Pritzker’s desk, waiting to become law — and today, Governor Pritzker is signing HB 1711!

This means as of February 2022 when the law officially becomes effective, animals will be legally protected from puppy mill breeding intended for pet store profit in the state of Illinois.

Additionally, Governor Pritzker’s support of HB 1711 historically makes Illinois the fifth state to pass legislation banning the sale of puppy mill animals in pet stores.

Thank you, animal advocates, for using your voices for pets in need! Because of the thousands of collective voices fighting for good, including yours, a population of our state’s most in-need animals will be protected. We hope you’re celebrating this incredible victory just like we are — with abundant happiness, a well-deserved pat on the back (or scratch behind the ears), and plenty of extra appreciation for the cats and dogs of Illinois.

With gratitude,
