Jack, the situation unfolding in Afghanistan is absolutely tragic. Watching the terror attacks unfold this week against our courageous troops and allies has been heart-wrenching, and it has been devastating to witness the Afghan men, women, and children become targets as they desperately attempt to escape the violence.
My heart is with the families of loved ones in the U.S. military, public servants, and Afghan people who now fear for their lives.
Our troops’ fearless sacrifice, resolutely evacuating thousands and thousands of innocent people, will not be in vain.
Our troops’ fearless sacrifice, resolutely evacuating thousands and thousands of innocent people, will not be in vain.
Our state is known for accepting people of all backgrounds, embracing our diversity. New Mexico is inclusive and welcomes people from all backgrounds.
While this week has been horrific, we will continue to fight for the equality of all people, and I will do everything in our power to give Afghan refugees a place to call home. We must continue to allow for the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses yearning to breathe free, to find a safe haven in our country, and most certainly in our state.
This is a difficult, tragic week for our country and for the world. Let us work harder than ever to honor those who have fallen.
In solidarity,
Maggie Toulouse Oliver
