Yesterday, we hosted our Medicare for All National Strategy Call, where we were joined by longtime Medicare for All champion, Senator Bernie Sanders.
Senator Sanders shared valuable insight about the current fight to improve and expand Medicare, as well as how it fits into our larger fight for Medicare for all.
In case you missed the call, here’s some of what he said:
“I don’t have to tell you, because you all know it better than I do: our current health care system is dysfunctional beyond belief. “I believe, as you do, that at the end of the day, what we need is a Medicare for All, single-payer program. That is the most cost effective, just way of providing health care to all of our people. “I hope that what we will be able to do right now… is expand and improve Medicare. “If we can pull this off, it might be the most transformational piece of legislation since the great depression. It will significantly improve life for working families.” — Senator Bernie Sanders on last night’s NNU Medicare for All Strategy Call |
We know that winning the expansion and improvement of Medicare in the short term will be life changing for millions of people. And because of our organizing, we’re on the right track to win the largest expansion of Medicare since it was created.
But our eyes are still on the prize. On the call, we laid out our strategy and organizing plans for this fall — and to kick things off, we are preparing to identify thousands of new local Medicare for All supporters and mobilize them to take action.
At these virtual parties, you’ll be joined by supporters from around the country as we text voters in four of the highest priority congressional districts. This work is critical to securing more cosponsors on HR 1976 and getting one step closer to passing Medicare for All.
No prior experience is necessary, and training will be provided at the beginning of the call. You don’t need to use your own phone to send texts — all you need is a computer or tablet.
Thank you so much for stepping up — we’re excited to get to work!
