This week, I was at the White House to attend the signing of my bill, the PAWS Act. This legislation — the Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers (PAWS) for Veterans Therapy Act — will authorize the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide service dogs to veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health conditions.
I am so proud to be the Democratic lead on this bill, which passed both the House and the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support. The research is clear: service dogs can provide enormous comfort to veterans living with PTSD. I have long been an advocate for supporting our veterans and am honored to play a role in expanding that support.
The PAWS Act is a small step in giving back to our veterans as much as they have given us. I look forward to continuing to advocate for our veterans and servicemembers on Long Island and across the country.
Thank you,
Kathleen
