Currently, nine House Democrats — representing CA-16, GA-07, HI-01, ME-02, NJ-05, OR-05, TX-15, TX-28, and TX-34 — are planning to vote against advancing Democrats’ budget reconciliation bill. We’ve shown repeatedly over the past few months that voters nationwide support this crucial infrastructure and care economy proposal, and now, we’ve teamed up with Climate Power to show that voters in these nine key districts do as well. These battleground district voters support the budget package by a 30-point margin and are less likely to vote for a candidate who opposes it.

There’s no excuse for House Democrats to oppose the budget reconciliation package. Read our full poll here.

Here are some highlights from DFP from the past week:

Expanding the Afghan Refugee Program is Urgently Needed — and Voters Widely Agree
One of the most important things the U.S. government can do to help the situation in Afghanistan is accept more Afghan refugees into the country. It’s also something voters agree with: we find that a majority of voters — including a +44-point margin of Democrats, a +8-point margin of Independents, and more than a third of Republicans — support accepting more refugees.

Rep. Jayapal on the blog: Voters Love the Progressive Agenda

This week, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, joined the Data for Progress blog to discuss the popularity of the progressive agenda six months into the Democratic Congressional majority. In her blog, Representative Jayapal breaks down how the progressive agenda — from the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, to the Equality Act, to the Build Back Better agenda — is not only popular with members of her caucus, but, as Data for Progress polling shows, with the American people as well.

This data makes one thing clear: the progressive agenda is one we can all get behind. It’s grounded in a vision of a fairer, more equitable, more inclusive world where we can all thrive. The Progressive Caucus will continue to fight until it becomes our reality.”

Congress Must Fully Fund Medicare, Medicaid, SSI, and SNAP for Territories
You might not have heard about it, but President Biden has proposed funding U.S. territories the same way it does for states — providing permanent funding for key social programs and eliminating the unique uncertainty territories face every time Medicaid extensions run out. But Congress is on track to reject this proposal. In new polling, we find that voters overwhelmingly want this funding included in the budget bill: by a +44-point margin, voters want full funding of Medicaid and Medicare for territories.

Americans Are Buying Biden’s “Buy American” Agenda

In late July, President Biden released an executive order that will use our government’s immense purchasing power to support American manufacturing. Previously, the “Buy American” rule required that just over half — 55 percent — of the value of a product’s parts must be manufactured in the U.S. in order for the federal government to purchase it. Biden’s new order will close this loophole by gradually increasing this threshold to 75 percent, something voters overwhelmingly back.
