Plus, Other Headlines Friday, August 27, 2021 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary Bauer Kabul Update Afghan officials report that 169 people were killed in yesterday's attack at the Kabul airport. Among them were 13 U.S. military personnel. Eighteen servicemen were injured. The attack led many of our NATO allies to abruptly end their evacuation flights. A British spokesman said they shut down their processing center this morning, and will only evacuate those people currently inside the airport. The last British flights will leave today. The danger is far from over. Hundreds of ISIS fighters are in Kabul. Yesterday's devastating attack will only whet their appetite for more blood. General Kenneth McKenzie, commander of U.S. Central Command, warned that hostile forces have been firing at our planes. Gen. McKenzie added, "The threat from ISIS is extremely real. . . and we expect those attacks to continue." A more sophisticated attack that damages the integrity of the runway so that planes cannot takeoff or land would be a nightmare. Please pray for the safety of the thousands of U.S. military personnel and American civilians still in Afghanistan who are desperately trying to get out. Biden Crumbles Once again, President Biden waited hours to address the worried nation, probably because he had to rehearse phrases he never says and, I suspect, doesn't believe. Biden lamented the disaster, but where has he been? People have been outraged for days at this obvious slow-motion catastrophe. Yet Biden insisted that he hasn't made any mistakes. Back in March, Biden assured us, "If we leave, we're going to do so in a safe and orderly way." Clearly, he failed. Just like he has failed to secure the border and failed to "crush COVID." (Remember, Biden kept telling us that he had a plan to crush COVID and to save lives and the economy.) To paraphrase the left, "Biden lied and people died." Biden talked tough yesterday, saying, "I will defend our interests and our people with every measure at my command." Excuse me?! The number one controversy for the past week has been his decision not to protect our interests or people in Afghanistan! He has repeatedly signaled that he will leave Americans behind. He turned security in Kabul over to the Taliban. Now he's given them a list of Americans and Afghan allies still in the country. He's handed our enemies a "kill list." Of course, Biden blamed Donald Trump, and he also blamed the military. He said that our generals advised him to abandon Bagram Air Force Base. If that is true, then whoever made that recommendation should resign immediately. Frankly, they should have resigned already. Our military experts had to know what a disaster this was going to be. They should have told him, "Mr. President, you're ordering us to do something that is guaranteed to fail. If you insist, we're resigning in protest." Do any of our generals have the courage and honor to resign in protest now? I'm not optimistic. (See below.) Meanwhile, more Republicans are demanding Biden's resignation or impeachment. And given the way he crumbled after a tough question from Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, I shudder to think of Biden going toe-to-toe with Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping or Ayatollah Khamenei. Trump Responds In a possible preview of the 2024 presidential contest, Donald Trump blasted Biden yesterday, saying the Kabul attack represented "the single most embarrassing moment in the history of our country." Trump added: "It never should have been this way. . . A child would know, you take the military out last. You get everybody [civilians] out, then you get all the equipment. . . But everybody knows that you take your military out last. And [Biden] took the military out first." Not one American soldier died in Afghanistan during the last year of Trump's presidency. But barely seven months into Biden's presidency, and the U.S. military has suffered its deadliest day in a decade. Joe Biden's weakness has caused the foreign policy disaster and chaos that all our so-called "elites" claimed Trump would create. They were wrong about Donald Trump, and they were wrong about Joe Biden. I'd gladly take a few mean tweets right now if we could have a competent commander-in-chief! Our Woke Military Hours before the disaster in Kabul, the sergeant major of the Army posted a tweet celebrating "Women's Equality Day." He wrote the Army is "smarter and more lethal when we come together as an inclusive, cohesive team." The American military has a proud history of diversity. But diversity is not the primary objective, and diversity does not make it lethal. That's just politically correct nonsense. But I will tip my hat to the woke crowd at the Pentagon. They have succeeded in putting together one of the most diverse groups America has ever seen. Right now, men and women of all races -- black, white, Hispanic, Asian -- and representatives of every faith and no faith, who love America and see themselves as patriots, are united against this failed president! Biden's Eviction Crisis Last night, the Supreme Court ruled 6-to-3 that Biden's eviction moratorium is unconstitutional, and grossly exceeds the CDC's authority. The eviction moratorium was put in place last year when the pandemic first erupted. Congress included the temporary eviction ban when the nation went into lockdown and many people were unable to work. But the ban expired and the Democrat Congress failed to renew it. So, Biden renewed it unilaterally, even though the Supreme Court was clear that the moratorium was unconstitutional. (A previous legal challenge showed there were at least five votes to overturn it, but Justice Kavanaugh allowed the ban to remain in place only because it was expiring very soon.) Under pressure from his far-left base, Biden demonstrated his contempt for the Constitution and the Supreme Court when he renewed the moratorium. He knew it was unconstitutional and he did it anyway, violating the oath he took to uphold the Constitution. But let's set the legal issues aside and assume for the sake of argument that helping renters stay put in the middle of a pandemic is the right thing to do. Even conceding that point, Biden still has a serious crisis on his hands. Congress has appropriated $46 billion for rental assistance in the pandemic. Just 11% of it has been spent! New York got $800 million to help renters, but only spent $2.7 million. What happened to all that money? Worried renters shouldn't be upset at the Supreme Court. They should be furious with the Biden Administration's incompetence. Other Headlines Honor Flights, canceled by the pandemic, have resumed. Veterans who have never seen the memorials built in their honor once again have that opportunity. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals suspended a ruling in favor of transgender rights and agreed to a full court hearing of a case challenging the right to privacy in school bathrooms. The full court currently has a 7-to-5 conservative majority. A federal judge blocked the Biden Administration's attempt to force religious hospitals to perform "gender affirmation" surgeries. Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in disgrace, just lost his Emmy Award too. You'll recall he won the Emmy for the "masterful performances" he put on during last year's COVID briefings. The award was a total farce given that Cuomo's idiotic policies killed thousands of nursing home residents. Ohio lawmakers introduced election integrity legislation to reduce the potential for voter fraud. Pennsylvania lawmakers revived efforts for a thorough forensic audit of the state's election system. An anonymous donor graciously paid for the funerals of 20 victims of last weekend's tragic flooding in Tennessee. This incredible act of compassion and generosity shows yet again that America is full of good and decent people.
