At the start of each new school year, I like to reflect on where I’ve been and how far I’ve come.
As a teenager, having lost both of my parents to illness as a kid, I struggled so much that I ended up getting kicked out of high school. While this could have been a moment where my teachers gave up on me, it was public school educators that actually saved my life, cared about me enough to give me a second chance, and inspired me to become an educator.
Thanks to them, I was able to dedicate a career to teaching and working in schools and eventually became the first Afro-Latino Secretary of Education under President Obama.
Now, I’m taking on a new challenge — running for governor of Maryland. We have a critical August end-of-month deadline approaching, so I hope you’ll consider chipping in.→
CONTRIBUTE ([link removed])
As a lifelong educator, I know the impact that our different social systems can have on the lives of students and families. As governor, I want to ensure that our state government is a transformative force for good in the lives of all Marylanders.
My vision for Maryland is a more equitable future that makes real economic dignity and prosperity, climate action and environmental justice, racial justice, and more seats at the table of opportunity.
Back in high school, my teachers made sure I didn’t slip through the cracks. Now, I want to do the same for Marylanders by ensuring that our state is a place where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
So please, will you contribute to my campaign for governor today? The end-of-month deadline is approaching quickly, and every dollar you pitch in makes a difference.
