The events of this week have shown that the importance of national unity has never been more clear. As the nation moves forward, No Labels remains committed to finding solutions by building bridges between the two parties.
That is why, as I watch the heartbreaking scenes of human suffering, death and desperation in Afghanistan, I keep saying, “None of this had to happen. The decision to withdraw was tragically unnecessary.” I’ve known President Biden for more than 40 years. He is a good and caring person and an experienced and skillful elected official. I am sure he is deeply troubled by the harmful consequences of his decision on people in Afghanistan and must be asking himself...
In the difficult months ahead, we’ll have plenty of time to debate how a country we invested in across 20 years and four presidents, two from each party, collapsed in a weekend. But right now, our leaders in Washington need to come together—Democrats and Republicans—to forge a unified response to this crisis. America still has an ability to shape events on the ground and prevent a very bad situation from getting worse. With lives on the line and American wisdom, values and tenacity on the line, it is not the time for finger-pointing and partisan attacks, but for bold action and bipartisan resolve.
We hear often in D.C. that we need big policy changes that “meet the moment.” This once-in-a-century infrastructure bill does just that: It meets the actual moment we are in. It is bipartisan at a moment when we are deeply divided. It will add jobs, build the economy, fix our crumbling infrastructure and help tackle climate change. Let’s take the win for American workers, and the nation, and pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill.
