For decades, I’ve worked with President Clinton to enact some of the most important programs for my community and our country. We established over 100 economic empowerment zones across the country, including one in Harlem that has invested $245 million in the community. Together, we doubled the Earned Income Tax Credit, established the Child Tax Credit, increased the minimum wage, and expanded Head Start. This work led to the longest peacetime economic expansion in U.S. history, as we reduced income inequality at the same time.
Over the past 20 years, President Clinton and the Clinton Foundation have continued this work – in Harlem, across the United States, and around the world to help communities that have historically been excluded from opportunity. And this year, they’ve continued these efforts by launching a new CGI Action Network on Inclusive Economic Recovery, to take action on the racial and economic disparities amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
I was honored to join my friend twenty years ago as he opened his offices in my community. I’m excited to celebrate this milestone, and looking forward to the work that comes next.
Sincerely,
Hon. Charles B. Rangel
