Six years ago, 13-year-old J.R. Gustafson was killed when his friend unintentionally shot him with a gun thought to be unloaded, but it lacked crucial safety features. The Gustafsons’ suit was thrown out because of the federal gun industry shield law, PLCAA, but an appeal court then held the law unconstitutional. This week, I was in court arguing a review of that decision, fighting for the rights of the Gustafsons – and all victims of gun industry negligence – to hold gun manufacturers and sellers accountable for this unimaginable tragedy.
