Friend,
This week we celebrate the 58th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. On Aug. 28, 1963, civil rights titans like Martin Luther King Jr. and Bayard Rustin took to the streets to fight for workers’ rights, voters’ rights and civil rights, because every American deserves dignity both in and outside of the workplace, as well as a voice in their democracy.
More than five decades later, these fights still rage on. Join the National Action Network, along with the Rev. Al Sharpton and me, this Saturday, Aug. 28, in Washington, D.C., as we march for voting rights.
Since January, 48 states have introduced 389 bills that amount to shameful outright voter suppression, and many of these bills have already become law. As anti-democracy forces are working to limit voting rights, interfere with vote counting and even manipulate the outcome of elections, it is our duty to stand together once again so that everyone who is eligible can vote and every vote is counted.
We’ll be gathering at McPherson Square at 8 a.m. before beginning our march at 9:45 a.m. to the National Mall. Sign up for Saturday’s march and for more information now.
Regardless of political affiliation, every voter has an unalienable right to have a voice in our democracy and a say in how we’re governed. Any effort to limit those rights should be fought tooth and nail. And that’s exactly what we plan to do.
In unity,
