Friend,

Even with the delta variant wreaking havoc across the country – particularly in areas with low vaccination rates – Republican politicians and pundits have decided to follow Donald Trump's pandemic playbook rather than get serious about saving lives and defeating the virus.

Exhibit A: Texas and Florida. Republican Govs. Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis have been fighting night and day – not to protect people with greater access to vaccines or try to slow the spread of the virus, but to ban schools and municipalities from mandating masks. Hospital ICUs are filling to capacity. The average age of admitted patients is steadily dropping. People are dying. Children under 12, not yet vaccine eligible, are truly innocents completely at the mercy of the behavior of adults around them. How can these supposed "public servants" justify this behavior?

GOP politicians in Washington are no better. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene – the standard-bearer for the modern-day GOP – has now been suspended from Twitter multiple times for spreading misinformation about the efficacy of COVID vaccines. She and many of her colleagues are also attacking our nation's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and demanding that he be fired.

Here's what we know: The Republican Party has followed Donald Trump off a cliff, throwing sanity and logic out the window in favor of crazed rhetoric and deadly misinformation. It's dangerous – and it's up to the silent majority of us who listen to public health experts, take commonsense health measures (like wearing a mask), and believe in vaccines to speak up and condemn the madness.

That's why I am asking you today to condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the anti-science extremism from the Republican Party:

Please, will you sign my petition right now to condemn Republicans for spreading harmful misinformation and demand they be held accountable for their actions? It is time for the "rage of the responsible" to be heard.

Vaccines are saving lives and keeping Americans from getting seriously ill and dying from this virus. Masks prevent the spread of increasingly more contagious variants. Social distancing and spending as much social time outside is another weapon against further virus mutation and spread. This isn't rocket science – and any public servant who spreads conspiracies in the midst of a pandemic is not fit to serve.

Together, we can hold lying Republican extremists accountable for their grossly unethical response to this pandemic. Thank you for joining me in speaking out.

Dick
