Did you know that over 70% of people in prison can't read above a 4th-grade level? Here's why that matters for a County Attorney:
Hi John,
When I'm not on the campaign trail talking with voters, I spend a lot of my time working with young people, some of whom have encountered our juvenile justice system.
Their backgrounds and personalities are as diverse as their charges, but what they all share is that none of them should be in the system. Every kid charged with a crime is a kid we’ve failed.
Most of these kids should be in school getting ready to start a new school semester, not a new stay in a detention facility. Yet, the incarceration of young people may help explain why over 70% of people in prison can not read above a fourth-grade level.
As Polk County Attorney, I will create programs that tackle issues such as literacy rates and help keep our young people out of the system in the first place so effectively that other county and district attorney offices across America will adopt them as routine practice.
Some would have us believe our goal of Justice for All is too big, but with people like you in this movement, I know we will prove them wrong and help millions along the way.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Graham
