wide awake action under sunrise dc logo [[link removed]]6/22 rally for Statehood!
Hi John,
This Saturday, August 28, hundreds of thousands of people will march through the streets of D.C. to demand that Congress grant DC statehood and to protect voting rights from racist voter suppression laws that are sweeping the nation.
Sunrise DC is proud to be one of the dozens of partners for this event and to bring our youthful, radical energy. We’re actively engaged in the fight for statehood because white supremacy has for too long denied our majority-Black-and-Brown city self-governance and proper representation. D.C. still has to get congressional approval in order to pass its own legislation, which has significantly impacted our ability to combat the climate crisis and ensure racial and economic equity locally. Statehood would also give us a voice in key legislation, like the Green New Deal, at the federal level.
Join us at the march. We need all hands on deck to show our elected officials that DC statehood and voting rights are non-negotiable.
Where: Meet up with Sunrisers at Franklin Park (near McPherson Square)
When: *This Saturday*, August 28 at 8:45am
Share why you’re marching on social media! Check out our toolkit and be sure to use the official march hashtag #VotingRightsMarch and tag us @SunriseMvmtDC so that we can amplify your post!
And if you’d like to get involved in our DC statehood work or other racial and climate justice projects, fill out this welcome form - we’d love to have you in the fight!
See you soon,
Sunrise DC
