Hello --
101 years ago today the 19th Amendment was adopted, which prohibited discrimination in voting on the basis of sex. This was a huge victory, but as we all know, this historic moment didn't include all American women.
Black and brown women fought for suffrage well into the 20th century. And now that the Supreme Court has gutted the Voting Rights Act of 1965 -- which outlawed racial discrimination in voting -- this civil rights movement continues to this day.
It's Women's Equality Day, and we are lifting up the countless Black women leaders in history who led the fight for voting rights: Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, Hallie Quinn Brown, Ida B. Wells, and more. More than just legends, these were women who risked everything -- including their lives -- to fight for suffrage and social justice.

Now, it's on all of us to honor the legacies of our ancestors. The Collective's Vote To Live Campaign is dedicated to registering Black voters, combating voter suppression, and demanding equal rights for our communities, because that is the promise of our democracy.
