The Latest Research, Commentary, And News From Health Affairs

Thursday, August 26, 2021

Dear John,

August's GrantWatch column covers funders' support of Medicaid
research and advocacy.

GrantWatch: Medicaid

The GrantWatch column in the August 2021 issue is about foundations
around the United States awarding funding related to Medicaid
.

In 2022 a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation national program will fund
studies to look at policy changes made to Medicaid during the pandemic
"and examine their impact on communities of color and/or explore how
current or proposed policies may alleviate or exacerbate racial inequity
and structural racism."

Also, The John A. Hartford Foundation's funding supported a National
Academy for State Health Policy report and webinar on paying family
caregivers through Medicaid consumer-directed programs.

For all Health Affairs' GrantWatch content, visit our website
.

Today on Health Affairs Blog, Andrew Menard and coauthors discuss why
the imaging appropriate use criteria program

should be combined with existing Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services quality programs.

Stacie Weeks and coauthors discuss how Nevada's new public option

legislation can help inform renewed federal and state discussions on
ways to expand coverage and increase affordability.

In a new GrantWatch post, Megan McHugh and coauthors say that shift work
can contribute to employees' illnesses and rising employee health care
costs
.

Check out our COVID-19 Resource Center
for Health
Affairs content about all things related to the pandemic.

**The Health Equity Fellowship for Trainees** is part of Health
Affairs' national initiative to advance racial equity in health policy
and health services scholarly publishing. Its objective is to

**value** and

**increase the quality**and

**quantity** of equity-related research published in Health Affairs that
is authored by members of racial and ethnic groups that have
historically been underrepresented in scholarly publishing.

In the program, fellows will receive multilayered mentorship from
experienced

**Health Affairs** authors and editorial staff for one year (from
January 2022 to December 2022). Mentors will work with fellows to make
fellows' manuscript submissions more likely to be accepted by the
journal or another journal within the fellowship year. Manuscript
submissions must be related to racial equity.

The application period closes on September 13, 2021.
