Who Are You Calling Disabled?

In an innovative collaboration between a rock climbing gym and
Children's Hospital Los Angeles' CATCH (Center for Achievement of
Teens and Children with Hand Differences) Program, kids who previously
lacked confidence and physical strength find their capabilities and a
community in rock climbing. It's not a matter of, "Can I rock-climb?"
but "How can I rock-climb?"

For Walter to Feel Better

"Should I be nervous?" Walter's mother Sarah asked.

Mark Urata, MD, Chief of the Division of Plastic and Maxillofacial
Surgery at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, said, "You should
be-it's serious surgery.

"But you should also know that I'm not, because I do this surgery all
the time."

And so Walter, not yet 1, headed into a surgery to, well, reshape his
head.

'A Whole New Sense of Appreciation for Life'

"Cancer teaches you to reset your mindset," says Nohea. Her two
children, Kalea, 7, and Noah, 5, were both diagnosed with the same
rare, malignant tumor last year. The siblings have been best friends
in their mutual cancer journey.

How CHLA Health Network Pediatricians Work With Parents to Help Teens
Facing Mental Health Challenges

Rates of youth anxiety and depression have risen sharply in recent
years. The CHLA Health Network is helping pediatricians better serve
patients and families coping with mental health challenges. Their
resources include a screening questionnaire for patients and
connections to qualified local mental health specialists.
