Transformational Justice in Action is holding two actions in Autumn 2021. The first is a month-long social media action to raise awareness of our #UnlockTheVote campaign leading up to the second, a virtual Town Hall on October 1. This Town Hall will present elected officials and interested community members with information about our work to restore voting rights to people with conviction histories.
Did you know that people in Washington, D.C, Maine and Vermont never lose the right to vote, even if they are incarcerated?
Do you believe that a person's worst moment should not define the rest of their life?
Transformational Justice in Action is holding a monthlong social media action in September to raise awareness of the issue of disenfranchisement among people with conviction histories, let people with conviction histories know that they can vote in some states and circumstances, and promote our #UnlockTheVote campaign. We invite all supporters to join the action by sharing our posts when you see them on Gamaliel National social media profiles (@gamalielnetwork) or the profiles of our affiliates. If you'd like to share the posts yourself, please contact your local affiliate or [email protected] for information.
We're hosting a virtual town hall focused on restoring voting rights—#UnlocktheVote—to people with felony convictions on Friday, October 1, 2021, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. CT via Zoom Webinar. We're asking all supporters to attend and hear from impacted leaders from TJA, who will share their own stories about the disparate and unnecessarily punitive impact of the laws that prevent people with conviction histories—especially those who have served their time in prison—from voting.
We have also invited elected officials to attend and express their support for reinstating voting rights. If you'd like to assist in inviting elected officials, please reach out to your local affiliate for instructions.
You can register for the webinar here.
