Major Federal Funding Is On The Line For Transit

The bipartisan infrastructure bill currently being debated in the US Senate cuts $10 billion dollars from public transit that was already agreed to by both parties.

Shockingly, while short-changing transit, the bill includes $25 billion in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry. We need green energy to power our communities.

We need an infrastructure bill that meets the climate and equity challenges of our times - not one that entrenches a car-centric status quo.

Reading the news, you may think that transit agencies are set up for success but...

Even as transit agencies are preparing for a possible influx of capital funds if the bipartisan bill passes, they are in many cases simultaneously preparing for service cuts as reported in the Wall Street Journal. This, of course, is why we want to include operations funding in the infrastructure bill. New stations and buses don’t help much without increased frequency and expanded service.

We need funds to keep operations going strong!
