Dear John,
Thousands of frisky feet run, walk, and dance their way across the PAWS Chicago 5K finish line every year. And each one is attached to a pet-loving hero.
Then there’s Elly Greenspahn.
Her devotion to homeless pets—and raising money to save them—is a lesson in tenacity as well as a constant inspiration to the PAWS Chicago community.

** Tarzan: King of the Cuddles
------------------------------------------------------------
Tarzan is a big cuddle-dog who spent time with six different foster families before meeting his match in Carrie Williams. Carrie decided to foster Tarzan after losing her 16-year-old lab, Ruby. But 3 months of fostering turned into a lifelong love affair after these two realized how much they meant to each other.

** Winona's Second Chance
------------------------------------------------------------
Earnest Russell was a registered cat colony caretaker in Chicago who tended to the stray cats on his block for decades. Winona (formerly “Wee Wee”) was his favorite. After Mr. Russell sadly passed away, PAWS accepted Winona into our care and now she’s getting a second chance to find a loving family.

** David the Dog Whisperer
------------------------------------------------------------
David Williams isn’t your average foster parent. He goes above and beyond, taking in hospice (or as David calls them, “fospice”) dogs who require the most attention, including multiple medications and/or treatments every day, plus a heck of a lot of love.

** Fredrick's Med Center Journey
------------------------------------------------------------
When Fredrick came to PAWS in November 2020, he was in bad shape. He tested positive for FIV and had open bite wounds on the right side of his torso as well as his left hip. Our expert veterinary staff at PAWS Medical Center repaired the wounds. And, after one site became infected a couple months later, they repaired it again in a second surgery.
Fredrick has gone through a lot, but it hasn’t dulled the twinkle in his eye. According to the foster family who helped him heal post-op, “Fredrick has a big tomcat personality. His favorite activities are playing with his wand toy, climbing on the furniture, and eating plants.”
After a thorough teeth cleaning, Fredrick was finally cleared for adoption in May. We’re so excited for him to find a new home so he can get back to doing what he loves best—making trouble!

** Kickin' It Volunteer-Style with Katie Kume
------------------------------------------------------------
Katie has achieved many milestones since she began volunteering for PAWS in 2019. She tirelessly worked her way up the ladder from a Level 1 volunteer to a Level 3 volunteer, meaning she’s now able to help care for some of the dogs in need of additional enrichment and training while waiting to find their perfect home. When Katie saw we needed help writing bios for some of our long-term pups, she jumped right in. On top of all of that, Katie frequently helps our foster team— as Lead Volunteer for the Foster Confirmation team, she helps ensure other volunteers are trained and empowered to carry out their roles to keep the foster program running smoothly. Katie never lets us down!

** Two Is Better Than One
------------------------------------------------------------
Scruff and Scuttle are a bonded pair that love vacuum rides! They came to PAWS a little under 2 months old and still nursing. After testing positive for feline leukemia, they were quarantined, treated, weaned, vaccinated, and neutered. At the end of July, they were finally adopted together!
