Dear John,
As summer winds down, this month we’ve leaned into practicing rest and restoration as an important component of our social justice work that fortifies us to fight against systems of oppressions and advance gender and racial equity. And our resolve is stronger than ever as the rights of women and girls continue to be threatened nationally and globally.
With the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, of the nearly 250,000 people who have been forced to flee their homes since the end of May, 80% have been women and children. In global recognition and as a member of the Women’s Funding Network, we recently signed onto a statement of solidarity with marginalized genders in Afghanistan. We are calling on countries to stand up for women, girls, and gender nonbinary people everywhere. We ask individuals to call political representatives to expand or create emergency programs to immediately host Afghan refugees; and we ask all to consider donating to sister organizations doing vital work on the ground to support women under threat (the list of these is noted in the letter). Together we can make a difference.
