Compassion must start today within our own head, heart, health, home, and in humanity. According to Merrill Littleberry, LCSW, LCDC, CCM, ACE-CPT, a nationally-acclaimed health psychologist who spoke last month at OAC's virtual Convention, that level of compassion will help us build resiliency in our lives through our toughest challenges. As summer slowly starts coming to a close, we wanted to drop those words here as a good reminder. In every season, remember to have compassion toward yourself no matter your weight, size or health status. You are deserving of respect and care, always.

ADVOCACY WIN! GA ADDS BARIATRIC SURGERY COVERAGE FOR STATE EMPLOYEES

Great news for Georgia! The state has finally added back bariatric surgery coverage for GA employees, a pool of about 500,000 people including school teachers. The win comes after several years of hard work from OAC and other patient advocates. We want to thank GA House Rep. Katie Dempsey for championing this benefit, all the OAC members who helped, the ASMBS Georgia Chapter, and Ethicon.

ADVOCATES WANTED!

The Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) would help thousands of seniors access obesity care, making your life safer and healthier. To help us pass TROA, legislators need to hear directly from real people! So, we're putting together a video for the Obesity Care Now Campaign and looking to highlight the real human story of what it means to live with obesity and how this legislation would change your life. If you're interested in being part of the campaign and are a Medicare recipient, please email us with your story at [email protected].
